Gardens, harbour, windmills.

Keukenhof first, windmills last, after the crowds thin. Paced for the group, never rushed.

    01

    Keukenhof Gardens

    ~3 hours · 09:30 entry

We start the day at the "Garden of Europe" Keukenhof. I hand you your ticket and you have 3 hours to wander freely among 7 million flowers. Breathe in the beauty at your own pace. Nature decides the exact bloom, but Keukenhof is always a fairytale.

    02

    Tulip Field Hunt (Apr-May)

    ~30 min · Bonus stop

From approximately April 12th to May 3rd, we extend our flower discovery beyond the park. After Keukenhof, we venture out to find the vivid tulip fields in full bloom, aiming to stop at two selected locations for breathtaking photos without the fences. Please note: Nature sets the schedule. The exact blooming window depends entirely on the weather conditions of the year.

    03

    Cheese & Clog Farm

    ~45 min · Tastings

We visit a traditional farm to see how things are done the old way. You will see a demonstration of how wooden shoes (clogs) are carved and how famous Dutch cheese is made. Of course, a generous cheese tasting is included!

    04

    Volendam Harbour

    ~1.5 hours · Free time + lunch

Next, we head to the famous harbor of Volendam. We start with a surprise tasting. Then, it's free time for lunch! I'll reveal the insider spots for the best Kibbeling (fried cod) or fresh Herring (and more). You can walk the dike and soak in the atmosphere.

    05

    Zaanse Schans Windmills

    ~1 hour · Working mills

We save the windmills for the afternoon. Why? Because we visit when the big crowds are gone. It's the perfect time for photos and a relaxed walk among the historic wooden houses and industrial windmills. We discuss water management and history as the day winds down. Then a quiet return to Amsterdam Centraal.

Bloom, mills and water.

The Flower Powerhouse

The Netherlands exports nearly 7 billion flower bulbs annually. On this tour, we go beyond the "pretty picture." We connect the pieces of the past regarding the ultimate symbol of the Netherlands, the general history of the tulip, the fascinating facts and statistics, and the true story of Tulip Mania (1637).

Zaanse Schans: First Industrial Mills

These were not drainage mills. They were the world's first industrial factories, sawing wood for ships, pressing oil, grinding spices. They powered the Dutch Golden Age.

The Polders: Land from Water

Without historic water management, there would be no dry land here at all. The polders are not landscape, they are infrastructure.

Volendam: Trade and Fishing

The fishing history of the former Zuiderzee that fed the nation before the dikes closed it in 1932.

Got Questions?

Everything travelers ask us about this tour.

When is the best time for tulips at Keukenhof?
Keukenhof Gardens is open from late March to mid-May. The open production fields (the colorful rows outside the park) usually bloom from mid-April to early May. Nature decides the exact peak, but Antonis knows where to find the best blooms on any given day. Even outside peak week, Keukenhof itself is always a floral fairytale.
Where exactly do we meet for the Keukenhof day tour?
We meet in front of Amsterdam Centraal Station, at Prins Hendrikkade 20B, 1012 TL Amsterdam, at 08:45 AM sharp. It is right outside the station and very easy to find. You will receive the exact Google Maps pin in your confirmation email after booking.
What languages does the tour run in?
The tour is offered in English and Greek. Antonis is a Greek-born Amsterdam local with deep knowledge of Dutch history, the tulip trade, and the small villages we visit. Greek-speaking guests get the same depth in their native language, ideal for families and school groups travelling from Greece or Cyprus.
    What happens if it rains?
This is the Netherlands, so weather can be unpredictable. Our mini-van is cozy and warm. At Keukenhof there are large indoor pavilions with flower shows. The flowers actually look more vibrant in photos on cloudy days. The tour runs rain or shine and Antonis adapts the rhythm to the weather.
    Is lunch included?
We include generous tastings (Dutch cookies, fresh farmhouse cheese), but a full lunch is not included so you keep freedom of choice. You will have free time in Volendam to pick what you like: fresh fish, chips, Dutch pancakes, or sandwiches. We are happy to recommend exactly where the locals eat.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions or allergies?
Yes. Let us know in advance about any allergies, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or kosher requirements and we will brief the farm stops and recommend lunch spots accordingly. We have hosted families with serious nut, dairy and gluten allergies without incident.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes. Kids love running through Keukenhof, watching how cheese and clogs are made at the farm, and exploring the windmills up close. Our mini-van is safe and comfortable for families, and we can provide child seats on request. The max-eight group keeps the day calm enough for younger kids and engaging enough for teens.
    How much walking is involved?
The tour is active but relaxed. Keukenhof is a large park, so expect to walk a few kilometers across the day, but there are plenty of benches to rest. In the villages the pace is easy. Our mini-van parks close to each sight, minimizing unnecessary walking compared to big bus tours.
Is the tour wheelchair or mobility accessible?
Keukenhof Gardens itself is fully wheelchair-accessible with paved paths, accessible toilets and wheelchair rental at the entrance. Volendam harbour and the cheese farm have flat surfaces but Zaanse Schans windmills include some uneven cobblestones and steps. If you have specific mobility needs, message Antonis in advance and we will adapt the route to keep the day comfortable.
Can I join as a solo traveler?
Absolutely. Our small-group setting (maximum eight people) is built for solo travelers. It feels more like a road trip with friends than a formal tour. You will never feel lost in the crowd and the conversations on the van are often the highlight of the day.
How is this different from a big-bus Keukenhof tour?
Three real differences. First, maximum eight people in a comfortable mini-van rather than fifty in a coach. Second, we add a family farm with live cheese-and-clogs making and a 10-minute stop at a local artist studio when time allows, things a big bus cannot do. Third, Antonis is a licensed local guide who has lived in Amsterdam for ten years, not a hired-day driver reading from a script.
How do I book and what is the cancellation policy?
Book directly on this page via the FareHarbor calendar (instant confirmation, secure card payment) or message Antonis on WhatsApp for custom dates and group requests. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. For private bookings of the whole van, custom cancellation terms can be agreed in writing in advance.
