Is there a private day tour from Amsterdam to the Brussels Christmas market over Thanksgiving week, Christmas week or New Year's?
Yes. EcoEcho Tours runs a private day trip from Amsterdam to Winter Wonders, the Brussels Christmas market, for your group only, at any group size. The market runs from Friday 27 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, so it opens the day after US Thanksgiving (Thursday 26 November) and stays open through Christmas week and New Year's Eve. The day is 10 to 12 hours, door to door from your Amsterdam hotel, normally in a mini-van, and a bigger party simply gets a bigger vehicle, with licensed guide Antonis Iliadis guiding the whole way. In Brussels you get a guided walk through the Grand Place and the lit historic centre, free time at the market, and the Sound and Light Show at the Grand Place as dusk falls. On 24 and 31 December the market closes early, and last year the light show did not play on those two evenings. Guiding is in English or Greek. Schools, companies and celebrations, from November onwards
Departures run from November onwards, which is when the market season opens and when the school trips, the end of year company outings and the celebrations all start looking for a date. We run the same day for agencies and tour operators, schools and universities, companies planning a Christmas outing, and for families marking a birthday or an anniversary with something better than a restaurant. You get one contact, Antonis, from the first email to the film that lands after the day. Private groups are collected door to door from your hotel or venue in Amsterdam and guided in English or Greek by a licensed, VOG screened, first aid certified guide, in new mini-vans. The programme is built around your brief: a shorter market window, a longer one, a tasting at a family run place along the route. Larger parties run as several vans on the same programme. Is the Brussels Christmas market open over Thanksgiving weekend?
Yes. Winter Wonders opens on Friday 27 November 2026, the day after Thanksgiving (Thursday 26 November), so Thanksgiving weekend is the opening weekend of the season. It then runs daily from noon to 10 pm until Sunday 3 January 2027, closing early at 6 pm on 24 and 31 December (source: the City of Brussels). December private days are limited and the good dates go first, so send your dates as early as you can and Antonis comes back with what is still open.
Is the market open on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and is the light show on?
The market runs daily from 27 November to 3 January, and on 24 and 31 December it closes early at 6 pm instead of 10 pm (source: the City of Brussels). One thing to watch: last year the Grand Place light show did not play on those two evenings. If the evening lights are the reason you are going, pick another date, and Antonis will say so when you ask.
How far is Brussels from Amsterdam, and how long is the drive in December?
The day is about 210 kilometres from Amsterdam, and in December you should count on close to three hours each way. Pickup is at 9 am, there is an optional coffee stop at the Baarle-Nassau border around 11 am, you are in Brussels around half past twelve, and the day usually ends back at your Amsterdam address around 9 pm, sometimes 10 pm.
What should we know before a December market day?
Avoid the third weekend of December if you have the choice. It is the busiest weekend at most of these markets, and weekdays are quieter everywhere. Bring cash, because not everyone takes cards, and usually the ones who do not are the small producers worth buying from. And dress to stand, not to walk. This is not a walking day, it is a standing day, outdoors, in December, often on stone. Layers, a hat and a thick sole count for more than a good coat. Does the day work with a wheelchair, and is there a minimum age?
There is no minimum age. A wheelchair works on this day if the chair folds, so it can travel with us between the stops. Tell Antonis when you send your dates and he will say honestly what the day looks like for you. A day with a wheelchair in the group runs at a slower pace, and the programme does not always come out the same. We adapt it around you.

Should we just take the train to Brussels instead?
You can, and it is worth seeing the real numbers first. NS runs EuroCity Direct to Brussels around sixteen times a day via Schiphol, Rotterdam and Antwerp, advertised from 25 euro one way, and Brussels-Central is roughly ten minutes on foot from the Grand Place. Booked early a return sits closer to 50 to 60 euro a person, and December weekend fares do not sit at the advertised floor. The difference is not really the ticket. On a train day you are on somebody else's timetable, you carry your coats and whatever you buy at the market around with you, and if one connection slips you lose a piece of the day. Belgium's own rail operator publishes its punctuality: intercity services run at roughly 93 percent on time, which is about one train in fourteen that is not. Our day goes by road, out of Amsterdam around 9 am and usually back around 9 pm, sometimes 10 pm, collected from your own address and returned to it. The journey is part of the day rather than the price of it: music, the kind of long conversation you cannot have in a train aisle, books if you want twenty quiet minutes, and VR glasses on request. We stop when we want, where we want, for a coffee or for a photograph. Coats and bags stay in the van instead of on your shoulder. And there is the Baarle-Nassau border stop, where the boundary runs straight through the cafes, which no train passes. If the cheapest way to reach Brussels is what matters, take the train. If you want the whole day handled and explained in English or Greek, take this.

Water is provided on every trip. There are also books on board. Between Amsterdam and Brussels you have a few hours of road, so you can talk, read, or watch the Low Countries go past.
Is there wifi in the van?
Yes, and it is free to anyone who wants it. Just ask Antonis and he will set it up.
Can we try the VR?
VR is available on request. Antonis can bring it if you ask when you book. It is not a standard part of the tour, so mention it in advance and it comes with us for the day.
Do you have child seats?
Child seats are available on request. Tell Antonis the ages when you send your dates and he will have them ready in the van.
What is your cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour start time, and the full amount goes back to your original payment method within 5 business days. After that the booking is charged in full. For larger parties of nine or more on one booking a sliding scale applies: full refund 14 days or more ahead, 75 percent between 7 and 14 days, 50 percent between 48 hours and 7 days. If we cancel because of serious weather you are refunded in full, and we always offer another date first.
Do you arrange tastings on this trip?
When a tasting suits your group and the route, Antonis arranges it himself, at family run places, not at farms or shops built for tour coaches. Tell us what you like and we will see what fits the December day.
What kind of vehicle do you use, and how green is it?
Whether a day calls for a car, a mini-van or a bus, the vehicle is matched to that group and that route. For a private Amsterdam to Brussels day it is normally a mini-van, with a maximum of eight on board.
What are the vehicles like for Belgium and back?
The cars and mini-vans are new and properly maintained. Antonis is a licensed guide, VOG screened and first aid certified, and he knows this route inside out. It is a long December day, so the condition of the vehicle is not something we improvise.
What happens if the weather is bad in Brussels?
We adapt. The programme moves around rain, wind and how busy the market is, and around what your group wants once we are there. Being private means the order of the day is not fixed to anybody else's schedule.
What if something goes wrong while we are in Belgium?
Antonis is local and knows what to do. If someone loses a phone or a bag, or gets hurt, he handles it on the spot. He is first aid certified, and he knows who to speak to and where to go. You are not sorting it out alone in a foreign city.
Can you tell us where to eat and drink in Brussels?
That is half the point of bringing a guide. Antonis will tell you where the waffle is actually worth it, which bar pours the beer properly, and which market stalls to walk past. Same in Amsterdam, and in any city we go to.
Is there guiding during the drive, or only in Brussels?
Both. The road is part of the tour. In the van we talk about the past, the present and the future of the country we are crossing, we take questions, and we laugh a fair amount. In Brussels you get a guided orientation walk before your free time at the market.

How far in advance should we book a private day?
