  Antonis Iliadis is a licensed guide, VOG screened by the Dutch authorities and first aid certified, guiding in English or Greek. That matters on a tour where children, grandparents and family history often walk together.

• The books come out at the places they belong

  Antonis walks with books and photographs. On the Singel, at Dam Square and at the Jewish Quarter you see the same corner as it was before you hear what happened there. Water is provided on every trip.

• The pace is yours

  Two and a half to three hours on foot, set to the slowest walker, with places to sit. Antonis reads the group. If a section is too much, we stop, and nobody has to explain why.

• Guiding all the way through

  There is no silent stretch between stops. Crossing the squares and waiting at the lights, the conversation continues into the past, present and future of this country. On this subject the tone stays measured and follows your lead.

• VR on request only

  We have a VR option and it is real, but it is never a standard part of this walk. Ask for it when you book and we bring it. Say nothing and you walk the city with streets, books and a voice, which is how most people prefer this material.

• Free wifi on request

  Ask and we bring it, at no cost. Useful if you are checking a family name, a street address from a document or a record while we are out.

• No vehicle at any point

  The whole route is walked, from Kattengat to Nieuwmarkt. Where another of our tours genuinely needs a car, van or bus, we always look for the greenest feasible solution.

• The programme bends to you and to the weather

  Rain, cold or a tired six year old changes the order of the stops, adds a longer sit down, or moves more of the story indoors. The itinerary is a plan, not a timetable, and we do not cancel a walk because of Dutch drizzle.

• Real places, never the set piece

  The coffee stop at the end is a neighbourhood cafe. If a tasting is ever added, it is at a family run authentic place. We do not walk guests into purely touristic operations built for coach parties.

• If something goes wrong, we are local

  A lost passport at Waterlooplein, a fall on a bridge, a phone left in the cafe. We live here. We know which office, which clinic and which number, and we stay with you until it is sorted.

• We know the food and drink, and we write it down

  You finish at Nieuwmarkt with Antonis' recommendations for the rest of your stay. Where to eat that night, which brown cafe is worth the walk, what to skip. Real local knowledge, in any city we guide in.

• Where we meet

  This walk starts at De Silveren Spiegel, Kattengat 4, five minutes on foot from Amsterdam Centraal, and finishes at Nieuwmarkt Square. Our private tours that travel by van are collected door to door from your hotel. Group tours meet in front of Centraal Station.
