Licensed guide Antonis Iliadis with the microphone aboard a closed canal cruise boat in Amsterdam

There is no more beautiful way to see this city than from the water, in summer or on the cold days of winter. The boat is closed and gezellig, the captain is a professional, and Antonis is aboard the whole time, guiding live and connecting the pieces. Everything else, the food, the drinks, the occasion, is built around you.

Can you charter a private canal cruise in Amsterdam with a live guide on board?

One hour, two hours, or as long as you want, year-round, for couples, companies, schools and every kind of group. Price on request.

Not included.

  • A fixed programme. There is none: you tell us the occasion and the day is built around it

From your idea to the water.

Three steps, and the only one that takes effort is the first message.

    01

    You tell us the occasion

    THE IDEA

A company evening, a school group, a birthday, a surprise, a bachelor party, or simply your people and the canals. Tell Antonis what you have in mind and how many you are, and he will say honestly what works. The more demanding the wish, the more it needs a conversation, which is exactly why the price is on request.

    02

    Antonis arranges the day

    THE BUILD

The boat and its professional captain come from a partner company Antonis works with. He organises everything else: the timing, the boarding point, the food and the drinks, from a bottle and something small to a full spread or a chef aboard. There is always the simple version too, a large boat and live guiding, and it is never the lesser one.

    03

    The city, guided live

    ON THE WATER

One hour, two, or as long as you want. Antonis guides the whole way, live, in English or Greek: the canals, the houses leaning over the water, the harbour, and the questions your group actually asks. In winter the boat is closed and warm while the city lights sit on black water, which is the version many guests end up loving most.

Who does what on your cruise

A private cruise has three jobs: the boat, the guiding, and the organising. Here is exactly who holds each one.

  • The boat and the captain

The boat comes from a partner company Antonis has chosen to work with, and a professional captain is at the wheel for the whole cruise. That is their craft, and it stays theirs.

  • The guiding

Antonis is aboard from boarding to goodbye, guiding live. Nothing is recorded and nothing is read out: it is a conversation with the city moving past the windows.

  • The organising

One person arranges the whole evening: boat, timing, boarding point, food, drinks, the surprise if there is one. You have one name and one number, before and during.

  • The honest answer on size

A simple cruise with live guiding can take a genuinely large group. The more particular or luxurious the wish, the tighter the limits get. That is why we ask how many you are and what you have in mind before we promise anything.

  • The default that never fails

Whatever else is possible or not, one version is always available: a simple large boat, the canals, and Antonis guiding live. Many groups choose exactly that on purpose.

What the water explains that the street cannot.

Questions this cruise settles

  • Why Amsterdam is best understood from the water it was built on
  • What the canal houses were designed to do, seen from the side they were designed for
  • Why the harbour made this city rich, and what it carries now
  • What gezellig actually means, and why a closed boat in winter is its natural home
  • Why the locals call winter the secret season on the canals

Hold your date.

Tell Antonis the date, the occasion and roughly how many you are. He replies himself with what is possible and an honest quote. The earlier the better, busy weeks fill first, and last minute is still often worth asking.

From the field notes

For companies, schools and agencies

A closed boat is the best meeting room this city has: no traffic, no doors opening, everyone facing each other while Amsterdam moves past the windows. We arrange private cruises for company evenings and team days, for school and university groups with the guiding pitched to the students, and for agencies and travel advisors who want one named, licensed guide aboard and one person accountable for the whole evening. Tell us the group and the occasion, and you get a straight answer on what works.

Got Questions?

Everything travelers ask us about this tour.

Why is the price on request?
Because no two cruises are the same order. An hour on a simple boat with live guiding is a very different evening from three hours with dinner served aboard for a company. You tell us the occasion, the length and roughly how many you are, and Antonis replies himself with an honest quote. No number on this page would be true for everyone, so there is none.
How many people fit on the boat?
It depends on what you want the evening to be, which is why we do not print a number. A simple cruise with live guiding can take a genuinely large group. A more particular or luxurious version has tighter limits and may not be coverable. Tell us how many you are and what you have in mind, and you get a straight yes, no, or here is what would work instead.
Where do we board? Can you pick us up near our hotel?
Boarding is usually near Centraal Station. If your hotel sits on or near a canal in the centre, we can often arrange boarding closer to you. Say so when you book and Antonis will tell you exactly where to stand.
Can you arrange food and drinks on board?
Yes, and this is where the cruise becomes yours. From a bottle and something small, to a full spread, to a chef cooking aboard. Birthdays, surprises and bachelor parties are regulars. State the wish; if it is doable, Antonis does it, and if it is not, he says so before you commit.
Is a canal cruise worth it in winter?
It might be the best version. The boat is closed and gezellig, that untranslatable Dutch word for warm togetherness, while the city lights sit on black water outside. The canals are at their quietest, and your group has them nearly to itself. Many of our guests say the winter cruise was the part of the trip they did not expect to love.
    Who actually operates the boat?
A professional captain from the partner boat company is at the wheel for the whole cruise. Antonis is aboard as your licensed guide and organiser: he guides live, keeps the evening on track, and is the one name you deal with from first message to goodbye.
How far ahead should we book?
As early as you can, because busy weeks fill first, especially December and the spring. That said, cruises do come together last minute more often than you would expect, so if your date is close, ask anyway. The worst answer is a fast honest no.
What language is the guiding in?
English or Greek, live, the whole way. Antonis guides in whichever your group prefers, and mixed groups get both.
