This is not the postcard loop. Kattengat, Centraal and the entrance under the water, then east along the Oosterdok past the library, the Booking.com campus, ARCAM, NEMO and the maritime museum, around the old naval base that is open to the public for the first time in centuries, and back behind the station. Two hours on foot, no vehicle at any point, and a side of Amsterdam that the canal belt tours never reach.

STOP 1 · UNDER THE WATER
We meet at Kattengat, walk to the station and go down, under the water. It is free, it is open to anyone, and almost nobody who takes a picture of the station facade knows it is there. What the city built down here answers a question most visitors never think to ask.
STOP 2 · THE OOSTERDOK
We follow the water east past three buildings that could not be more different. One of them earns the word sustainable, one of them wears it, and one of them is the best free view in the city. Which is which is a good argument to have on the way.
STOP 3 · ARCHITECTURE
The architecture centre sits between the green hull of NEMO and a warehouse older than most countries. We read the skyline from here, and if the weather agrees we climb to a square that not one guidebook sends people to.
STOP 4 · THE LABORATORY
The navy kept this land shut for generations. Today it is where the city tries out what it might build next, and what is running here changes from month to month. We look at what is on the water that week and at what quietly failed.
STOP 5 · THE GREENHOUSE
A greenhouse on the water that grows part of its own menu. Whether we step inside or read it from the path depends on the day, and either way this is where the honest questions about food and cities come out.
STOP 6 · THE LOOP CLOSES
We come back along the water where the ferries leave for the north bank, which is where the next chapter of this city is already under construction. Two hours, one loop, and you finish where the trains are.

It would be odd to run a tour about green claims and then be vague about our own. Here is what this walk is, what it costs the planet, and what you only get if you ask for it.
The whole route is walked. Nothing burns anything for two hours, and you see the water level, the docks and the small green details up close instead of watching them slide past a window. On our tours that do need a vehicle, car, van or bus, the vehicle is matched to the size of the group, never the other way round. Here the honest answer is your own feet.
The 1275 waterline under your shoes, the wooden piles under the houses, the canal water being used for heating and cooling, the rooftops, the repair shops, the reuse projects in the north. This walk is about systems you can stand next to, not slogans.
Water is provided on every trip. On the day trips there are books on board. On foot the equivalent lives in Antonis' bag: old maps, historical photographs held against the modern street, and chalk to draw the old waterline on the pavement.
Every EcoEcho tour ends with a short edited film, given as a gift. Antonis films along the route, the canal light, the chalk map, your people laughing at something. You leave with the walk, not only the memory of it.
We have VR and it is genuinely good for seeing a street as it stood a century ago. It is available on request only and it is never a standard inclusion. Ask when you book and it comes along. Say nothing and the walk stays exactly as described.
Ask for it and you have it, at no cost. Useful for a school group sharing notes or anyone travelling without a Dutch data plan. It is not part of the standard walk.
On a private tour you are guided throughout, including the walking between stops. That is where the past, present and future of the country actually get discussed, with humour, and where your own questions get answered properly instead of being parked for later.
A group hooked on the circular economy gets more of the laboratory, and the north bank if you add it when you book. A group with tired legs gets more benches and fewer bridges. Wind and rain reorder the stops rather than cancel them.
We keep to the calm local streets, out of respect for the people who live on them and because that is where the real city is. We do not pretend the postcard is the whole story.
Antonis knows the best food, drink and activities in every city we work in, and here you leave with his list of social impact cafes, breweries and shops. Where a tasting is part of a tour, it happens at family run authentic places, never at purely touristic ones.
