Got Questions? (16)

Everything travellers ask us about this tour.

Why choose a Small Group (Max 8)?
Unlike big bus tours with 50+ people, our small group guarantees personal attention. We can take smaller roads where big buses can't go, wait while you take your photo, and actually answer your questions. It feels more like a road trip with friends than a standard tour.
    Is lunch included?
We include generous tastings (Cheese at the farm & traditional cookies in Volendam). However, a full sit-down lunch is not included in the price. We give you free time in Volendam or Giethoorn to choose what you like, from fresh fish by the harbor to a cozy restaurant or a quick snack. We are happy to give recommendations for every budget!
    What if it rains?
This is the Netherlands, so weather can change! Don't worry. Our luxury mini-van is comfortable and warm. The cheese farm and clog demonstration are indoors. The boat in Giethoorn is covered. Just bring a jacket/umbrella, and we'll take care of the rest. The moody Dutch skies actually make for dramatic photos!
Is this tour suitable for children?
Absolutely! Kids love the variety. Seeing how wooden shoes are carved (chips flying!), tasting cheese, and the boat ride in Giethoorn keeps them engaged. It's an educational and fun day out for families. I care personally for the kids and I make sure the day means something to them too.
How long is the day and when do we leave?
Around ten to eleven hours. We meet at 09:00 sharp in front of Centraal Station, Prins Hendrikkade 20B, and leave at 09:00.
    Is the Giethoorn boat included?
Yes. A one-hour boat tour through the canals of Giethoorn is part of the ticket, not an extra you pay for on the day.
    What else is included?
The minivan, the traditional farm with cheese tastings and the clog demonstration, the cookie tasting in Volendam, a bottle of water, wifi, chargers, books and the iPad overlays, and live guiding in English or Greek.
    Does this run in winter?
Year-round. April to October is the easy season, but the villages and Giethoorn in the cold months are quieter, and many guests prefer them that way.
What language is the guiding in?
English or Greek, live, the whole day. Mixed groups get both.
How much time do we get in Giethoorn?
Two to two and a half hours in all: the boat through the canals, and about an hour free on foot along the water before we head back to Amsterdam.
Is Giethoorn worth it if we have already seen Volendam?
They are two different things. Volendam is a working harbour with a fishing past you can still taste. Giethoorn is a village where the water does the work of the street. Most guests say the contrast is the point of the day.
Can you pick us up at our hotel?
This is a scheduled small-group day, so it starts in front of Centraal Station at 09:00 sharp. For a door-to-door version, look at the private Giethoorn day trip.
What are the cookies in Volendam?
Traditional Dutch Christmas cookies, made all year, in something like seventy different flavours. You taste them where the locals buy them, not at a stand built for buses.
Is there a minimum age, and does the day work with a wheelchair?
There is no minimum age. A wheelchair works on the minivan days if it folds, so it can travel with us between the stops. Tell us when you book and we will say honestly what the day looks like for you.
What should I wear and bring?
Layers and comfortable shoes. Most of the walking is flat and easy, and the van is warm between the stops.
    What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the tour and you are refunded to your original payment method within 5 business days. After that the tour is charged in full. For bookings of 9 or more people on one booking: 14 days or more before, full refund; 7 to 14 days before, 75 percent; 48 hours to 7 days before, 50 percent. If we cancel for serious weather, you get a full refund and we offer you another date first.
