EcoEcho Tours runs a private day trip from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, Volendam and Giethoorn, roughly 10 to 12 hours in a private van with door to door pickup from your hotel around 09:00. Licensed guide Antonis Iliadis, VOG screened and first aid certified, guides in English or Greek, eight to a van. Every private day is fully open to custom: tell Antonis what you need and the day is built around it. If the day is marking something, a birthday, an anniversary, a honeymoon, tell Antonis: he finds the restaurant and holds the table, and reserves entries and tickets ahead of the day.

STOP 1 • HISTORY
We step into the 18th century. Explore the historic Zaanse Schans, seeing the working industrial windmills that define the Dutch skyline. You'll witness the history of trade, innovation, and water management firsthand in an open-air museum setting.
STOP 2 • TASTE & CRAFT
We visit a local, traditional farm for a full sensory experience. Watch a live demonstration of how the iconic wooden shoes (clogs) are carved from poplar wood. Then, indulge in an authentic cheese tasting, sampling various Dutch Goudas. A true taste of tradition.
STOP 3 • VILLAGE VIBES
Next, we explore the labyrinth of the famous fishing village of Volendam. We have arranged a tasting of traditional Dutch Christmas cookies, made all year in something like seventy flavours. Afterward, enjoy free time to walk the dike, shop for souvenirs, or have a fresh fish lunch by the harbor.
STOP 4 • THE SCENIC DRIVE
This isn't just a drive. It's a documentary experience. We cross the 30 km Markermeerdijk, water on both sides. It is the best stretch of the day for talking about Dutch life and water management, the past, present and future of the country. Or, if you prefer, simply recline your seat, enjoy our curated music playlist, and take a peaceful nap as we glide towards Giethoorn.
STOP 5 • THE FINALE
The grand finale. A car-free village with no roads, only canals. We enjoy a relaxing 1-hour boat cruise through the thatched-roof farmhouses and wooden bridges. Then an hour on foot around the village before we head back to Amsterdam.
A birthday, an anniversary, a honeymoon, or simply a day that has to land right. Tell Antonis what the day is for and he arranges what it needs: the restaurant found and the table held for the right hour, entries and tickets reserved ahead of the day, the pace set so nobody is dragged through their own celebration, the surprise kept if there is one.

How custom days workRoughly 10 to 12 hours, three villages, a lot of road between them. Here is exactly what you get for it, so nothing is a surprise at 09:00 in your hotel lobby.
Door to door pickup from your Amsterdam hotel, usually around 09:00 so we reach Zaanse Schans ahead of the coaches. Antonis confirms the exact time and address the day before. Child seats on request, so tell us the ages when you book.
You are on the road for most of a day, out along the Markermeerdijk and up to Giethoorn. The vehicle is new and properly maintained. Antonis is a licensed guide, VOG screened and first aid certified, and the vehicle comes before the schedule.
Car, van or bus, the vehicle is matched to the size of the group, never the other way round. For this route that means a private van sized to your group, never a half empty coach covering the same kilometres.
Not a ride with a playlist. Across the 30 km dike with water on both sides we talk about the past, present and future of the country, with humour, and you ask whatever you want. If you would rather recline the seat and sleep before Giethoorn, that is also a completely valid choice.
Water is provided on every trip, and books ride with us. Small things, but on a 12 hour day they are the difference between arriving in Giethoorn fresh and arriving in Giethoorn finished.
Free wifi is available if you ask for it when you book. VR is available on request only. Both are real, both come if you want them, and neither is a standard part of this tour.
The clog carving and the Gouda tasting happen at a traditional working farm. The cookie tasting in Volendam is arranged with people we know. We do not stop at purely touristic farms built for bus traffic.
More time at the windmills, a longer stop on the dike for photographs, a covered boat in Giethoorn if the sky turns. The programme adapts to your needs and to the weather, and we always take the most authentic route rather than the fastest one on the map.
Fresh fish by the harbour in Volendam during your free time. The right terrace in Giethoorn for coffee or Dutch mini pancakes. We know the best food, drink and activities in every city we visit and we will tell you honestly which places are worth it.
