Who designs custom private tours in Amsterdam and the Netherlands?
EcoEcho Tours does. Days are built around your brief by Antonis Iliadis, a licensed, VOG screened and first aid certified guide who lives in Amsterdam. Routes run across the city, out into the Dutch regions, and over the border when the trip calls for it. Maximum 8 guests on van and walking days, up to 15 on private bike days, in English or Greek.

Private days start at your hotel door
Private tours are collected door to door from your hotel. No meeting point to find, no standing on a corner. Group tours meet in front of Centraal Station instead.

When the day needs wheels, the vehicle is new
New cars and mini-vans. The vehicle is the part of a day that has to be boring. Within that, whether it is a car, a van or a bus, we always look for the greenest feasible solution for the group size and the distance.

The guiding does not stop when the doors close
On private tours you are guided throughout, including on the road. The past, the present and where this country is heading, told properly and with humour. The stretch between two places is part of the tour, not a gap in it.

If your day includes tasting something, it happens at a family run authentic place. Never at a purely touristic farm built for buses.

Ask for the good coffee, the honest lunch, the bar worth the detour, and you get a real answer rather than the first result on a map.

Water on board, and books too
Water is provided on every trip. Books ride along as well, for the quiet stretch of a long day or when someone wants to go deeper on something we just talked about.

Wifi and VR, only if you ask
Free wifi is available on request. VR is available on request. Neither is a standard inclusion on any day we build and we will not pretend otherwise, so say the word while we are designing the plan.

Child seats on request
Travelling with small children is normal on custom days. Tell us the ages when you send the brief, the right seats are arranged, and the pace gets built around them too.

If something goes wrong, we are local
A lost phone, a bag left behind, a scraped knee. We live here, we know who to call and where to go, and we handle it instead of handing you a phone number.

A short film at the end of the day
The good moments are filmed as the day goes and edited into a short film for you afterwards. Every tour ends with one, as a gift. A day built specifically for you deserves something to keep.

What local actually buys you
I live here. That is the whole difference.
Anyone can read a route off a card. The value of a local is the judgement calls you never see, the ones that quietly make or break a day.
- I will not send you to Rotterdam on the wrong day. If there is a marathon, a strike, or a market that changes everything, I know, and I move the day.
- There is almost always something on. I build the day around what is actually happening that week, a festival, an open monument day, a market worth catching.
- On a Monday a lot is closed. I route you to the place that is open and worth your time, not the one with a locked door.
- For the far regions I research properly before I quote, and I tell you honestly if the travel time is worth it. No filler days.

Corporate & ESG offsite
A leadership team wanted an offsite that meant something. A morning on Amsterdam's circular economy story on foot, then the Delta Works in Zeeland in the afternoon as a living metaphor for long term thinking. Debrief over local beer.
History buffs
Repeat guests who had already done the canals wanted the harder history. Three hours of resistance, the Jewish Quarter, and tolerance, told with photos and chalk, then a quiet cafe I actually go to.
Family with teenagers
Grandparents, parents, two restless teenagers. Giethoorn's car free canals by boat in the morning, Zaanse Schans windmills after lunch, timed to dodge the tour bus crush, because I know when each spot empties out.
The curious returner
A guest who had been three times said, you pick. That week there was an open monument day and perfect cycling weather, so we rode the countryside and slipped into buildings normally closed to the public.

You send the brief, we send back the day: route, stops, timings and the reason behind every choice, so you can change whatever needs changing before anyone commits. Antonis Iliadis designs every plan personally. He is a licensed guide, VOG screened and first aid certified, guiding in English or Greek. The numbers stay honest on the ground: maximum 8 on van and walking days, up to 15 on private bike days, so nobody at the back of your group misses half the story. Larger groups run as parallel groups on the same programme.

Born in Thessaloniki. A web developer for over a decade, a year each in Budapest, Berlin and Athens, then ten years in Amsterdam. When tourism reopened after the pandemic, I started guiding bike days on weekends. By 2025 it was a company. EcoEcho is built for small groups. Honest pacing, real local stories, no guidebook clichés.

Price, commitment, and how a custom day really works.
How much does a custom tour cost?
It depends on the day we design together: the length, the group, and how far we travel. There is no fixed price list because there is no fixed tour. Tell me your idea and I will send a clear quote with the plan, no surprises and no obligation.
Am I committing to anything by getting in touch?
Not at all. A message just starts a conversation. You get a free plan, we go back and forth, and nothing is booked until you are happy and say yes.
What is the custom plan exactly?
A presentation I make for you: the route, the stops, the timing, and the thinking behind each choice. You read it, we adjust it, then I build it. You only pay once the plan is confirmed.
What can a custom tour actually be?
A themed walk or ride in Amsterdam (sustainability, WWII, liberal and LGBT history, the water story), a day trip to the Dutch classics or the quieter regions like Limburg and Zeeland, or a cross border day to Belgium or Germany. If you can imagine it, tell me and I will tell you honestly whether and how we can do it.
Do you guide every tour yourself?
When I can, yes. For some far day trips the guide may be someone I trust and have personally briefed, but I always design the plan myself. I tell you up front who is guiding.
How big can the group be?
From a private day for two up to larger school, university, and corporate groups. The format scales: tell me the headcount and I will build for it.
How far ahead should I get in touch?
The earlier the better for popular dates and bigger groups, though I have built good days on short notice too. If your dates are close, message me on WhatsApp and we will move fast.
What if my idea is not listed anywhere on this page?
Even better. The best days usually start with an idea I have not built yet. Send it over and let me surprise you.
Where does a custom private tour start? Do you pick us up?

Yes. On private tours the guiding runs throughout, including on the road. That is where a lot of the best conversation happens: the past, the present and the future of this country, with humour. The stretch between two stops is part of your tour.
What happens if the weather turns on the day?
The programme adapts to your needs and to the weather. Because your day is designed from a blank page, moving an outdoor hour indoors or reordering the afternoon is a normal decision rather than a crisis. You will be told what is changing and why.
Do we get anything to keep from the day?
Yes. The good moments are filmed as the day goes and edited into a short film for you afterwards. This happens at the end of every tour, as a gift.
Is water provided? What else is on board?
Water is provided on every trip. There are also books on board, which come into their own on longer days or when someone wants to read further about something we have just been discussing.
Can we have wifi, or try the VR?
Both are real and both are on request only. Free wifi is available if you ask for it. VR is available if you ask for it. Neither is a standard inclusion, so mention them while we are designing the day.
We are travelling with small children. Do you have child seats?
Child seats are available on request. Tell us the ages when you send your brief and the right seats will be in the vehicle on the day. The pace of the day gets built around them too.
Where do we eat, and are the tastings touristy?
We know the best food, drink and activities in any city we visit, so ask and you get a real recommendation. When a day includes a tasting, it happens at a family run authentic place, never at a purely touristic farm built to process coaches.
What if something goes wrong during the day?
We are local, and that is exactly when it counts. A lost item, a phone left in a cafe, an injury. We know who to call, where to go and how things work here, so it gets handled on the spot instead of becoming your problem in a foreign country.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the tour and you are refunded to your original payment method within 5 business days. After that the tour is charged in full. For bookings of 9 or more people on one booking: 14 days or more before, full refund; 7 to 14 days before, 75 percent; 48 hours to 7 days before, 50 percent. If we cancel for serious weather, you get a full refund and we offer you another date first.
Our dates are fixed and in high season. How early should we book?
Book as early as possible. Availability is the real limit on a custom day, not the design work, and fixed dates in busy weeks go first. Larger bookings deserve extra lead time as well, since the terms for 9 or more start 14 days out. Send the dates now even if the rest of the brief is still vague. ---
